Storia
Il paese di Buonabitacolo fu fondato il 2 novembre 1333 da Guglielmo Sanseverino, signore di Padula, Sanza e Contea di Policastro. L'atto di fondazione fu stipulato durante il regno di Roberto d'Angiò, nel Palazzo San Giacomo a Padula, alla presenza di alcune persone importanti dell'epoca.
Guglielmo chose the name Buonabitacolo for the new settlement due to the healthy air and its distance from the infected swamps that spread through Vallo di Diano. In the latter part of the century, Buonabitacolo remained under the dominion of the Sanseverino family. It was in 1407 that Ladislao I of Naples stripped Ottaviano Sanseverino of his fiefs because of his rebellion and granted them to an armiger named Russo de Specchio in exchange for services rendered to the crown.
